Biodynamics for our School Community and beyond.
Providing quality organic/biodynamic food for our community and families has long been part of the vison for the School Farm. We are inviting all interested to come along at 10am on Saturday 20th August 2022 to hear from leading experts and practitioners about what could be possible in our area.
In a time of increased concern about local food security now and for the future this is an especially important opportunity.
10am: presentation and discussion will be followed by BYO lunch
1-3pm for those interested: an afternoon walk over a prospective site for a CSA at the Steiner School farm with Frank, Josje and Dieter Proebst and opportunity for further discussions and questions.
This event is part of the series of 8 workshops funded by Kete Ora Trust for the community of Motueka Rudolf Steiner School Trust (MRSST) about the theory and practice of biodynamics in home gardens, marae, market gardens, farms, schools and our Steiner School Farm.
This Workshop will be led by Frank van Steensel who, with business and life partner Josje Neerincx, founded NZ’s first CSA (Community Supported Food Production) in 2014. Originally from the Netherlands, Frank and Josje bought a patchy piece of land in the Wairarapa in1996 and began developing a farming system targeted at growing healthy nutritional crops while reversing the trends of genetic erosion, environmental degradation and the externalisation of costs that are common in modern farming practices. Both, with academic backgrounds in sustainable agriculture, rural development and extension (helping others to help themselves), Frank and Josje lead by example and teach experiential learning and working. Their Wairarapa Eco Farm, first Demeter certified in 2000, is a pilot scheme for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in Aotearoa provides weekly bags of organic fruit, vegetables to a community interested in taking back responsibility for their own health and the health of the environment, thus creating a new society based on food quality and inclusive thinking.
