DIY Rainwater harvesting system goes live @Waimarama Community Gardens

Faced with financial constraints, the end of a water resource consent and the climate changing the Waimarama Community gardens went to work on planning and installing a Rainwater harvesting system for watering the gardens. The first of 3 systems have been completed and is accessible to the public to come and see how it works. All parts were locally bought from Bunnings, donated by PlaceMakers Annesbrook and calculations made with the help of Devan Tanks online rainwater calculators. At the moment the next 2 projects are on hold until more funds become available.

Cost of 5000L System:

  • Gutters, downpipes, fittings & parts from Bunnings: $ 292
  • 16”Bricks elevating tanks from PlaceMakers: Donated
  • IBC Tanks from Solly’s: $120 each
We would like to invite anyone who is interested in setting up a system like this at home to come have a look and see just how easily it can be done.
