A message from Kate Fulton, Ben Bushell, Sally Rees for anyone interested in helping with weeding the Brook Waimarama community gardens - dates and times for the working bees are below:

The Brook Waimarama Community Gardens is undergoing some transformations with a new focus on Urban Food Resiliency and the creation of an Urban Food Farm in collaboration with Community Compost.

However, right now we urgently need your help with weeding and hopefully eradicating some particularly invasive weeds including Convolvulus, Oxalis and Hemlock which are rapidly overtaking the communal spaces.

Due to the urgency the Working Bee dates are:

Wednesday 13th Jan 9am-midday
Saturday 16th Jan 9am-midday Sunday 17th Jan 9am-midday

Please bring gardening gloves, water bottle, morning tea to share if you would like to, and maybe a trowel, fork or spade. We also have some available to use.

Hope to see you there.

Many thanks

Kate Fulton, Ben Bushell, Sally Rees.

Background info about the gardens:

The Waimarama Community Organic Gardens, Nelson's only public organic gardens, is open year-round to provide information, workshops and organic produce sales to the community.

Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the gardens and learn more about organic horticulture through demonstrations, workshops and other upcoming events. Garden plots are available for lease to community groups and individual community members. Organic produce, seedlings and compost are available at our sales kiosk.

We aim to provide a beautiful garden environment where people of all abilities and interests are able to connect with nature and learn skills for living more enjoyable, productive and sustainable lives.
